According to the World Health Organization, diabetes mellitus is the ninth leading cause of death globally.
To raise greater awareness about the causes and prevention of this illness, the Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS) leadership from the Ecclesiastical District of Capas, Tarlac held an online seminar on November 28, 2021, which was attended by number of brethren from various local congregations in the district.
Resource speaker Dr. Aileen Bautista discussed about the common triggers or causes of diabetes and, more importantly, the necessary steps how to avoid them. She advised the brethren to closely monitor their sugar intake.
She said that being knowledgeable of this disease, “how it affects people, as there are so many people around the world who has it,” helps lessen the tendency towards developing this “long term” illness.
“There are complications that would be triggered if diabetes will not be controlled, such as heart attack or stroke, blindness, kidney failure leading to dialysis or kidney transplant, among others,” she added.
Analyn Del Rosario, from the Local Congregation of San Antonio, said, “This seminar is a great help for me and my family. I will now do my best in making sure that no one in my family would have diabetes.” — With reports from INC News Section
