To provide brethren with information and help them gain insight on how to cope with depression, the Christian Family Organizations (CFO) leadership in the Ecclesiastical District of Cavite held a mental health awareness seminar on October 19, 2022.

Brother Elson Sarmiento, a minister of the gospel from the INC (Iglesia Ni Cristo) Counseling office, led the activity from the house of worship of the Local Congregation of Gen. Trias. His discussion was streamed live to other houses of worship in the district where other brethren also gathered.

In his presentation, Brother Sarmiento enumerated and discussed coping mechanisms that counselors have proven effective in dealing with and combating various mental issues that lead to self-harm. More importantly, later on in the activity, he emphasized from the Bible the significance of firmly trusting God and of being prayerful in overcoming any situation.

Thankful to the Church Administration for the said seminar, Ruel Ocampo, a choir member from the F. Manalo Congregation, said, “Inspired by the Almighty God, our Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, addresses concerns about mental health. Not only were we taught about precautionary measures, but most of all, we encouraged to cast our worries to God.”

“More than anything else, it’s the words of God we draw inspiration from,” shared Florina Araño, a Children’s Worship Service (CWS) teacher from the Cavite City Congregation, when asked about her takeaway from the seminar. “These serve as our shield as we face difficulties in this life so that we can take care of ourselves and, more importantly, our membership in the Church and the hope for salvation,” she explained.

Brother Ernie Angelio Silladores, a ministerial worker, enthused, “It is of great help to all of us because through it we were equipped with better understanding about depression and how to deal with it as true members of the Church Of Christ.” — With reports from INC News Section
