The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) donated Php 5M to the Quezon City government as an aid to the fight against the Coronavirus disease.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte received the donation during her courtesy call at the INC Central Office on March 21, 2020. In an interview, she said:

Napakalaking tulong po talaga sa amin ito, lalung-lalo na gipit na gipit po kami sa panggastos sa pagkain, gamot, mga gamit sa precautionary measures na kakailanganin, karamihan po ng biktima natin ay senior citizens. Marami po tayong matutulungan na mga pamilya, and I’m very grateful. Please accept, from the bottom of my heart, my heartfelt gratitude to you,” Mayor Belmonte said.

(This is a great help for us, especially now that we are running short of funds for food, medicine, necessary equipment for precautionary measures since most of the victims are senior citizens. We can aid so many families now, and I’m very grateful. Please accept, from the bottom of my heart, my heartfelt gratitude to you.)

The donation came just six days after the President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Luzon island under Enhanced Community Quarantine status. The city’s first COVID-19 case was reported in March 14, a day before the lockdown of Metro Manila was enforced. Latest statistics show 49 confirmed cases in the city, including three fatalities.

Quezon City is considered the most populous in the National Capital Region (NCR) with a population of about three million. — with reports from INC News and Updates
