CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Maryland — Communities in the DMV (Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) region have not been exempt from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many are struggling to try to make ends meet, while others are doing their best to keep their families safe and healthy.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) or Church Of Christ held an Aid to Humanity event at the Oakcrest Community Center on October 30, 2020, which is part of its worldwide activity to help communities, even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
INC members from the DMV region joined efforts to provide assistance and show their compassion for friends and neighbors in the community.
This event was in coordination with The Maldon Foundation, a community assistance organization established by the Mayor of Capitol Heights, Mayor Shawn M. Maldon.
Two hundred care packages that included groceries and other essential products were given to the Maldon Foundation and then given to community members.
Mayor Maldon expressed his gratitude: “I am just filled with joy. And appreciate you for what you do for the community. Because, even though I wear the hat as mayor in the town of Capitol Heights, there are limitations as to what we can do, particularly with a small government. It is because of the organization. It is because of people. It is because of you that we do further good for the community.”
Mayor Maldon is no stranger to the INC. He was an attendee in the INC’s Aid to Humanity – U.S. Tour in 2019 and saw firsthand the deep level of commitment that the INC has for providing help in various ways to all communities.
Under the stewardship of its Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, the Iglesia Ni Cristo is unceasing in its socio-civic projects globally, reaching out to the different sectors of the community, especially the marginalized.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) or Church Of Christ has established its presence in 158 countries and territories, and its members are from 147 races and nationalities.
