To hone their skills in responding to emergencies and disasters, members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers (SCAN) International and of the Christian Medical Dental Paramedical Society (CMDPS) in the Ecclesiastical District of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, attended a seminar-workshop on April 21, 2024. It was held at the covered court of the town of Candoni.

Brothers Stephen A. Ojales, Rex O. Villarias, and Salvador C. Caño from the Local Congregation of Candoni, who are rescue officers in the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (LDRRMO) in the municipality of the congregation’s namesake, served as resource speakers.

Brother Caño discussed First Aid/Basic Life Support and the use of emergency equipment. Among those emphasized were the proper way of administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid to burns, open wounds, and fractures. Brothers Ojales and Villarias discussed the importance of emergency preparedness, and demonstrated disaster response strategies, respectively.

“Learning how to respond efficiently to emergency situations and disasters is timely and helpful. As SCAN members, the skills to provide immediate help and rescue are vital for us to be of help to our fellowmen,” said Eustaquio Ojales Jr., the district SCAN president.

“We are so thankful to the Church Administration for this activity. It is part of my duty as a SCAN member to be able to help those in immediate need. The knowledge shared to us today will all the more help us to be effective in our duties, in serving not only my fellow Church members but nonmembers as well,” explained Jonel Cabitar from the Local Congregation of Kabankalan City. — With reports from Lenny Señeres of INC News Section
