The Ecclesiastical District of La Union held the finals of the Unity Games, KADIWA and Binhi levels, on May 4, 2023 at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University‒North La Union Campus in Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines.
The sporting event formed part of the district’s commemoration of the twin youth organizations’ 50th anniversary in October this year.
The athletic meet kicked off with a parade of all the participants around the sports ground, which was led by Brothers Ardie Mendoza and Jonie Sibalo, the district supervising minister and assistant district supervising minister, respectively.
Winning KADIWA and Binhi teams and individual players in the preliminary rounds represented their respective areas, namely, Area 1 (Balaoan), Area 2 (Bacnotan), Area 3 (San Fernando City), Area 4 (Naguillan), Area 5 (Caba), Area 6 (Agoo), and Area 7 (Rosario).
They vied for the honor of representing their district in the regional stage of the Unity Games in such popular events, such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, track and field, table tennis, and board games.
More than just for the love of sports, “the activity’s aim is for the [KADIWA and Binhi members] to come together for the sake of strengthening their [brotherly bond and further their] active participation in all of the projects launched by the Church Administration,” according to Brother Lounie Mendez, a minister who helped manage a certain team.
This was indeed the experience of the players such as Michael Jayson Gale of the Agoo volleyball team. “We went through several stages of practice and scrimmages for us to prepare ourselves and to make everyone in our team understand the essence of teamwork. … everything went well and we think we have played a good game together with our brethren,” he said. — With reports from Joeson Cueva of INC News Section
