On August 21, 2022, seven couples each representing a cluster of congregations, namely, Dumaguete City, Bais City, Siaton, Mabinay, Bayawan, Siquijor, and Manjuyod competed for the title “Mr. and Mrs. Chef” in the Ecclesiastical District of Negros Oriental.

The culinary competition was held at one of the pavilions in Sidlakang Negros Village, the tourism hub of Negros Oriental, situated in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines.

Each couple in the finals were tasked to prepare a three-course meal, with squid as the main ingredient. Danny and Analiza Cueco, from the Local Congregation of Tanjay City, representing the Bais City cluster of local congregations, won in the competition. For their plat du jour, the Cuecos prepared deep-fried ‘Butterfly Squid.’

“Not only was it a chance for us to hone our cooking skills but, more importantly, it served as a bonding moment for me and my husband. It strengthened our marital relationship. Participating in this cooking competition brought us joy,” Analiza said.

“We are thankful to our Lord God because through this activity launched by the Church Administration married couples from various local congregations get the opportunity to show their talent in cooking and, at the same time, be together,” said Brother Ruel Panopio, resident minister of Siaton Local Congregation. “We can see that this gives them not only joy but also added activeness in their services to God.” — With reports from INC News Section
