Members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers, International (SCAN) in the Local Congregation of Estancia, Ecclesiastical District of Iloilo North were given a refresher course on disaster preparedness and emergency response management during a seminar held on January 30, 2022 in their house of worship.

Part of the activities launched by the Church Administration under the Christian Family Organizations (CFO), the seminar aimed to further instill in them the necessary steps to be taken in times of disasters and emergency situation so that they can always be prepared to give assistance to those in need.

It can be recalled that in December 2021, Typhoon Rai (local name: Odette) battered southern Philippines, including the province of Iloilo and other provinces in the Visayas region. Like in many instances before, SCAN members were called upon to fulfill their duties which includes conducting rescue operations in cooperation with pertinent government agencies as well as facilitating in the distribution of relief packages from the Church Administration.

The highlight of the seminar was the Bible-based homily of Brother Charmil Castro, a minister of the gospel assigned in the CFO Office. Through videoconferencing, he reminded the brethren not only of the importance of their God-given duties but also of the heartwarming truth that God sees their toils and that He assures, through His words in the Bible, that such labors will never be in vain.

“We felt overwhelming joy to know that the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, does not forget us, the SCAN members, and he himself recognizes our sacrifices for the sake of fulfilling our duties,” said Brother Jun Hechanova, SCAN president of the Estancia congregation. —With reports from INC News Section
