The Ecclesiastical District of Tarlac City, Tarlac held a fire prevention seminar “to equip the SCAN members with skills and knowledge in responding to fire incidents,” according to Benjamin Lacsina, the SCAN district president.

Members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International from various local congregations gathered at the house of worship of the Local Congregation of Aguso to participate in the seminar held on March 13, 2022.

Fire Officer (FO) Niño Magat of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Tarlac City, Tarlac, Philippines served as the resource speaker. “We are thankful for the participation of the SCAN members in our program. We hope that they learned a lot from what we shared with them,” he said.

In the seminar, the SCAN members learned what causes fires, the steps to be taken to prevent them from happening, how to assess the level of a fire, and how to respond to fire incidents. The properly use of fire extinguisher was also demonstrated to them “Responders must remember P.A.S.S, which stands for Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep,” Magat explained.

Jingo Garingo, a SCAN officer from the Local Congregation of Paraiso, said, “Among others, I learned that the use of a fire extinguisher is advised only for Level 1 fires. If upon assessment the fire level is already at Level 2 and above, firemen should be called on the scene.”

“We are thankful to the Church Administration for approving such activity. We promise to use these skills that we learned, more importantly, in performing our duties in the Church,” Lacsina, the SCAN district president, remarked. — With reports from INC News Section
