The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) recently established a group worship service in the city of Sydney, the capital of Cape Breton Island. It was the second GWS in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, the first being Digby GWS.

The inaugural worship service of the Sydney, Nova Scotia GWS, which is under the Ecclesiastical District of Ottawa, was held on December 4, 2022 at a rented hall at 54 Riverdale Drive in Sydney. It was officiated at by Brother Jose Eleazar Yarcia, the assistant district supervising minister.

In his homily, Brother Yarcia reminded the brethren to be thankful to God even despite difficulties they might have encountered this year. He encouraged them to all the more be committed to serving the Lord, especially now that they have a place of worship closer to their homes.

“We used to travel nine hours, back and forth, just to attend a worship service in the Local Congregation of Halifax, which is the nearest from our place,” said Maridel Torino, GWS secretary.

She and fellow Sydney GWS members now hold their regular worship services at 85 Kenwood Drive, Sydney.

“We are thankful to the Lord God for having our own GWS,” enthused Richard Torino, GWS overseer. “It is more convenient to us and for sure we can find more people here to be our prospect guests in the works of propagation and be called inside the Church Of Christ. So, we promise to continue to spread the words of God.”

Brother Edgar Allan Hale, resident minister, said that the Sydney brethren were so happy and felt blessed because the “establishment of Sydney GWS is a proof and manifestation that God truly loves them. Through this, they will be able to constantly receive the words of God through the worship services. They will also be taken care of and be led not only in the right way of serving God, but most of all, in the salvation that is near to come.”

“With this new development of the Church in this part of the world, the brethren will be given more opportunities to demonstrate their unity with all the works in the Church being launched by the Church Administration,” said Brother Yarcia. “To our beloved Executive Minister, we would like to express our thanks to you for the unconditional love that you are showing to us. We’ll strive to lead all the brethren in living in holiness.” — With reports from INC News Section
