MANILA, PHILIPPINES —Ambassador Jorge Moragas Sanchez made a courtesy visit to the Iglesia Ni Cristo Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
The ambassador and his entourage received a red carpet welcome at the newly built Iglesia Ni Cristo Museum along Central Avenue which is near the INC Central Office Complex.
Ambassador Sanchez holds the distinction of being the first ambassador, from a Western European country, to visit the INC Museum.
Prior to his current function, the ambassador served as Spain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2012-2017) and was appointed Secretary of the National Security Council of Spain (2012-2017).
His Excellency Jorge Moragas Sanchez met with the Executive Minister for about 30 minutes.
Present in the meeting, Brother Joel San Pedro, head of the INC’s foreign missions department, said that the Spanish ambassador recognizes the INC as a strong institution that is good for the country and communities around the world where it has congregations.
Currently, in the Ecclesiastical District of Spain alone, there are 21 established local congregations with its district office situated in Barcelona, Spain—the place where the ambassador was born and studied law and other degrees.
The worship building in Barcelona—regarded as one of the largest INC worship buildings outside the Philippines (with a seating capacity of 1,200)—was dedicated by Brother Eduardo Manalo on July 28, 2012, days prior to officiating a worship service in Ibiza.
Barcelona was also the main site of the Worldwide Evangelical Mission last April 30, 2017, officiated by the INC Executive Minister and broadcasted in hundreds of sites around the world.
According to Brother San Pedro, the ambassador expressed curiosity and interest about the INC’s beliefs and practices.
As the ambassador left the venue, hundreds of well-wishers waved INC and Spanish flaglets, a warm gesture by INC members.
