Because of the pandemic, brethren, especially the youth of the Church―KADIWA and Binhi members―stayed at home in adherence to quarantine measures imposed by governments. To help them cope with the new normal, an online Unity Games board games edition was launched in the Ecclesiastical District of Thailand on November 8, 2020.
The INC Unity Games is a Church activity that foster friendship, camaraderie, and promote a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Brethren from various local congregations in Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Thailand participated in the activity.
Because the usual physically competitive sports like basketball, volleyball, and cheering competition cannot be held under the new normal, the KADIWA district officers, through the leadership of Brother Marco Arnel Tumanan, district Christian Family Organization (CFO) overseer, looked for alternative games that the members could play competitively even with the present circumstances. They came up with online board games like chess, checkers, and Scrabble.
Sean Azley Alcantara, KADIWA Sports Committee officer, said, “Although we cannot conduct the usual sports that we use to do, we can still hold Unity Games online with the use of mobile apps.”
Jane Michelle Pajanel, head secretary of the Local Congregation of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, stated, “The activity is useful in developing our skills and talents while participating in Church activities.”
The activity allowed the brethren, even the non-athletic ones, to participate and represent their local congregation. The brethren also achieved through the activity what they desire—unity, sportsmanship, and foster the strengthening of faith. ― With reports from INC News Section
