KADIWA and Binhi members from countries overseen by the Ecclesiastical District of Thailand showcased their talent in a short film making activity.
The activity started before the Covid-19 outbreak as the brethren shot their film entries, and on July 4, 2020, the awarding ceremony was held through videoconferencing.
“Conceptualizing the short film competition and the awarding event was inspired from the mainstream film festival. There were challenges along the way but with the unity and support of the District of Thailand, KADIWA officers, and also all the locals, we were able to make this event a success, especially with the guidance of our district CFO [Christian Family Organizations] overseer, Brother Marco Arnel Tumanan,” Adelmo Velasquez, a district KADIWA officer, said.
The film entries portrayed the life stories of young individuals living abroad as they work overseas. The characters portrayed their struggles and accomplishments, integrating the importance of upholding the Christian culture as members of the Church Of Christ.
Marc Aldrin Lascano, district KADIWA chairperson, led the short film awards. John Paul Cosico and Micaella Dato, district KADIWA officers, hosted the awarding ceremony. The awards included Best Bulletin Board, Best Trailer, Best Movie Poster, Brethren’s Choice Award, Best in Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Musical Score, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Actor and Actress, and Best Director.
Bangkapi Local Congregation received the Best Film Award and Best in Editing with the brethren’s entry “Offload.” Other awards went to “Co Len (Fighting)” for Best Trailer, “Secret of True Happiness” from Bangkhae Congregation for Best Poster and Best in Screenplay, “Choices” from Bangkok Congregation for Brethren’s Choice Award, Rommer Ace Ablao from Bangkapi Congregation for Best Director, “4212” from Bangna Congregation for Best in Musical Scoring, Christian Elegado of “Secret of True Happiness” won Best Actor, Myca Bacquiran of “Offload” for Best Actress, Louie Manalo of “Choices” won Best Supporting Actor, and Kristel Nicole Dimarucot of “Choices” for Best Supporting Actress.
Ace Ablao, Bangkapi Congregation KADIWA Chairperson, said, “One of our KADIWA members suggested a story concept that will capture the hearts of our fellow KADIWA overseas workers. After all the planning, the production team, together with the cast, exerted efforts in producing our short film entry entitled ‘Offload.’ The team really gave extra time whenever we were called for shooting schedules. We know that this will inspire our fellow KADIWA overseas workers to be strong and steadfast in the faith.” ― With reports from INC News Section
