Two local congregations and one group worship service in the Ecclesiastical District of Italy South held Unity Games in separate venues on April 25, 2023.

The congregations of Roma Centro and Naples and the Aversa GWS’ Unity Games served as a preliminary round in preparation for the district-wide version of the games.

Players and spectators from Roma Centro gathered at the Green Sport Arena in Via Giannantonio Selva 100, Roma while those from Naples and Aversa at Parco Salvino Arturo Pozzi, Aversa.

Brother Michael Pineda, district Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer, supervised the games, with the assistance of Brother Harry Jamesford Bautista, resident minister of Naples, and Brother Joren Ernesto Maceda, resident ministerial worker of Roma Centro.

Brethren-athletes in the first venue competed in basketball and volleyball matches, both of which had two divisions, men and women. The same set of activities transpired in Aversa but with badminton matches as well and the Children’s Worship Service (CWS) members there enjoyed playing soccer.

“Though playing sports is truly exhausting, but still the brethren, as I do, felt refreshed,” said Mark Gil Montecer, head deacon in Roma Centro, whose basketball team won. “Participating has made us more active not only physically but also spiritually, as we’re able to bond with each other and so the love of brotherhood became more evident,” he added.

The winning teams and players, who received trophies and medals, will represent their respective congregations in the Unity Games in their district slated for June 2 this year. — With reports from Malou Infante of INC News Section
