With easing of Covid-19-related lockdown in the United Kingdom, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members throughout the United Kingdom Ecclesiastical District conducted a clean-up and beautification drive at Victoria Park, Manchester, England on August 1, 2021.
“This is in line with the teaching of our Lord God, that whenever we possibly can, we should do good to [others],” explained Brother Glenn Gomez, United Kingdom District supervising minister. “It’s been a while since we last saw each other, and are able to conduct activities like this in person. In England, as most of the lockdown restrictions have been eased, we are taking advantage of this opportunity.”
Held in collaboration with Friends of Victoria Park (FOVP) organization, the activity titled “Neighbourhood Appreciation” aimed, among others, to promote environmental awareness and to help in keeping the community surrounding clean and beautiful.
Grouped in teams assigned to specific areas in the park, the brethren, equipped with bin bags, gloves, and rubbish pickup tools, as well as paint, paint brushes, not only cleaned the park but also repainted fences and benches.
“It’s been a really good day. And it’s been nice to see so many people working together,” said Nancy Scheerhout, a FOVP organizer.
Another FOVP representative, Margaret Longworth, said, “The park’s been looking such a lovely place now from when it did this morning. You have done so much to the community and I think it will last a while, which is really nice.” — With reports from INC News Section
