The Ecclesiastical District of Western Europe held its first cooking competition involving elderly members, on March 14, 2021.
The contestants, judges, organizers, and other brethren involved all connected through videoconferencing.
The superb cooking skills of the elderly brethren who participated truly shined as they gamely met the challenge of cooking a dish in just an hour with a minimal list of ingredients.
Their presentation of their dishes also provided an opportunity to bond with their loved ones, among other Church members in attendance.
Among the contestants was Brother Jerry Cajaljal, Buklod president of Versailles Group Worship Service in France. He shared, “Since I was 17 years old, I’ve started to have a passion for cooking, [and] until now, that I’m in Paris.” He said that that even led him to work as cook for a president of a big company in Paris. “So when they were having events, I would be the head cook,” he added.
Some interviewed brethren said that they were inspired not only by their elders’ culinary prowess but also their enthusiasm for Church activities. — With reports from INC News Section
