The winners of the “Buklod Step-up Walking Challenge” held by the Ecclesiastical District of Australia East were feted during a fitting program held online on April 24, 2022.

The award ceremony served as culminating activity for the month-long competition, which involved several categories including individual’s, couple’s, and by local congregation.

In the individual (over 60 years old) category, Reynaldo Dizon from the Local Congregation of North Sydney was adjudged the champion. The second, third, and fourth placers were Marvin Del Rosario from the Local Congregation of Townsville, Queensland, Marilyn Beard from the Local Congregation of St. George, and Linda Relizan from the Local Congregation of Minchinbury, respectively.

In the local congregation category, the Local Congregation of St. George won with the most steps cumulative of all the brethren there who joined, followed by the local congregations of Dean Park, and Gold Coast.

The challenge aimed, among others, to motivate the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members from various local congregations of the district to become more physically fit through walking. The object was for the participants to reach the highest possible number of steps from March 9 to April 9.

A total of 355 brethren participated. Daily, the brethren logged through a step counter app how long and how far they walked.

“We enjoyed participating with our families. That’s the best part, being with the family. This activity did in a way improve our health and inspire to get fit not only us but also our children as early as possible,” said Christian Aquino on behalf of the winning congregation.

Walking, as a form of exercise, leads to weight loss, clears up the mind and thus improve thinking abilities like creativity, improves sleep and blood pressure, and reduces the risk of a heart attack. — With reports from INC News Section
