CANADA — Many factors in recent months have impacted the cost of living for Canadians. Rising inflation and potential job instability have residents bracing for uncertainty and financial struggles. Particularly affected are newcomers to Canada.
In recognizing these struggles, the Iglesia Ni Cristo [INC] or Church Of Christ, in partnership with Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, launched Care for Humanity outreach events throughout the country. Through socio-civic initiatives like these, material aid is extended to individuals and families in need especially during calamities and hardship.
From British Columbia to Nova Scotia, the INC reached out to those of low income backgrounds, new immigrants to Canada, international students, and refugees, providing care packages containing much needed grocery essentials.
In Western Canada, Care for Humanity events took place in Burnaby, British Columbia and Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. Guests were provided with entertainment and warm meals prepared by INC volunteers.
Musie Abraham, moved to Canada in 2024 from Eritrea. He is currently employed but still faces challenges. “As a newcomer it’s hard. The fellowship, the people that I met here, they are very good. I feel happy. We got food and many [things]. It’s helpful for us, so thank you so much.”
Residents in Saskatoon and Winnipeg also benefited from the Care for Humanity event which provided medical services such as blood pressure and blood glucose checks. Free clothing items were also made available to guests.
On the Eastern Canada, from the capital of Ottawa to the Maritimes, hundreds of community members in need, many of whom were immigrants, benefited from the care packages and free services provided at Care for Humanity events in Niagara Falls, Toronto, and Ottawa, Ontario, Montreal, Quebec, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Gankam Domo, originally from Cameroon, shared his happiness during the Care for Humanity in Ottawa, “It’s remarkable event that makes people feel good, happy!”
In Toronto, recipient Paul Kinene commented, “When I saw the package, the only thing that came into my mind was love. It’s so important. In every community, there are so many people who are in need.”
INC members follow the biblical command to do good to those in need whenever possible. Following the nationwide series, another Care for Humanity outreach was conducted in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 7, 2025, extending much-needed assistance to victims of prairie wildfires.
Brother Voltaire Tamisin, a Minister of the Gospel, states that this concerted effort is part of the commemoration of the 139th birth anniversary of Brother Felix Y. Manalo, recognized as the last messenger of God by the INC. “In this event we are showing our true love and concern, and we are giving back to the community. We are helping those who are in need … to fulfill the commandments of God written in the Bible, to love your fellow man, to love your neighbor.”
Care for Humanity and similar outreach events will continue to be conducted by the INC and the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, building relationships with the communities in which INC congregations can be found, sharing faith through acts of kindness, love, and compassion.
