Five local congregations, namely, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Invercargill South, and Queenstown, and the Cromwell Group Worship Service (GWS) comprising the Invercargill region of the Ecclesiastical District of New Zealand South convened for their INC Unity Games. It was held at the covered court of James Hargest College, Layard St., Invercargill, New Zealand on June 2, 2025.

The sports event started with the parade of colors. Then, the players had their warm-up exercises prior to the game proper. They competed over basketball (men’s category), volleyball (women’s), darts, chess and scrabble (Buklod, KADIWA, Binhi).

To make this activity successful, the Church officers, through the leadership of the Invercargill Congregation head deacon Jeffrey Redoña, made a lot of preparations.

“We had a scheduled coordination meeting and divided responsibilities to every member of the committees. Most importantly, we had a devotional prayer to ask guidance from our Almighty God,” he said.

District supervising minister Brother Uziel Bongares, who graced the activity with his presence, awarded the trophies and medals for the winners.

With its players having won at four different sports (basketball, volleyball-men’s, darts, scrabble-KADIWA), Invercargill Congregation was declared the overall champion. Meanwhile, other winners were:

Volleyball (women’s): Dunedin Congregation

Chess (Buklod), Scrabble (Buklod): Cromwell GWS

Chess (KADIWA): Invercargill South Congregation

Chess (Binhi): Christchurch Congregation

Scrabble (Binhi): Queenstown Congregation

“We once again fulfilled what’s expected of us. Unity. And we achieved this victory with God helping us,” said Invercargill Congregation head deacon Jeffrey Redoña who was among the event’s organizer.

Scrabble player Karlydan Montes of the winning team from the same congregation, enthused, “This activity brought me joy. It’s an opportunity for me to bond with other Church members. Everyone felt uplifted in the faith.” — With assistance from Roxanne Rosquita of INC News Section
