The Coron Area was declared the overall champion of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Unity Games that the Ecclesiastical District of Calamian, in the Philippines, held at the Coron Coliseum and Recreation Center in Coron, Palawan on June 3, 2025.
Competing with those of four other areas, the players representing the said area won in basketball (men’s-Buklod, –KADIWA, –Binhi categories), volleyball (men’s), chess (men’s), badminton (doubles-men’s, -women’s), and darts. Clad in red uniforms, they hail from the Local Congregations of Coron, Culion, and Tagumpay, Burabod Extension, Demanyang Extension, Malbato Extension, Nangalao Extension, and Mabentangen Group Worship Service.
The other areas were Guadalupe Area (in blue uniform), Salvacion Area (orange), Borac Area (violet), and the San Jose Area (green) that aced at the volleyball’s women’s category.
“This is not only about winning but also about how our bond as brethren strengthened and our teamwork and dedication shown during this sporting event,” said Coron Congregation volleyball player James Montaño.
The day’s event began with a parade of colors, followed by the opening remarks delivered by district secretary Brother Conrad Escal Jr. Then, district supervising minister Brother Rio Constantino led the players’ taking oath of sportsmanship. Afterwards, they competed in basketball, volleyball, chess, badminton, and darts of various categories. Concluding the activity, Brother Constantino and district assistant supervising minister Brother Gerson Canlas awarded trophies and medals to the winners.
“I was very happy and thankful when our team was declared champion in basketball,” said Alberto Maberit Jr. from Nangalao Extension. “The discipline and cooperation we showed as a team yielded a good result. Every match we played was a challenge for us, but because of our teamwork and trust in each other, we’re able to win the championship.
