The Ecclesiastical District of Los Angeles County held the finals of the Children’s Worship Service (CWS) Tagisan ng Talino (Bible Quiz) on July 13, 2025. The representative of Sta. Monica Congregation bagged the top spot.
CWS teacher, Julius Mariano from the Los Angeles Congregation, said, “It has always been one of the most anticipated events in the CWS.”
Contest proper
The 11 finalists were: Kassandra Daniella Sotto (Eagle Rock), Ada Marie Luminario (Glendale), Edrianna Isabel Constantino (Lancaster), Aiken Pineda (Los Angeles), Jody Kate Morado (Monterey Park), Christiana Rich Vitug (North Hollywood), Albie Robert Villa (Oxnard), Valerie Faith Morales (Pasadena), Keanna Reyes (Santa Clarita), Francis Rhys Valenzuela (Santa Monica), and Jared Ashwin Esguerra (Woodland Hills).
Held at the Northridge Academy High School Auditorium in Northridge, California, the competition was supervised by Brother Pierre Cardin Perez, the district Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer, together with the district CWS officers. It consisted of easy, average, and difficult rounds.
CWS teacher Matthew Valenzuela from the Pasadena Congregation said the activity “positively impacted the young participants’ faith by encouraging them to study the CWS lessons, which enriched and deepened their understanding of the teachings and the words of God.”
Announcement of winners
With an almost perfect score, Santa Monica Congregation’s representative Francis Rhys Valenzuela won the friendly competition. First- and second-runners-up were Aiken Pineda of LA Congregation and Keanna Reyes of Santa Clarita Congregation, respectively.
District supervising minister Brother Artemio T. Pilon Jr. and assistant district supervising minister Brother Erwin Brillo congratulated and awarded the winners on stage with district champion trophies. Also recognized were all other participants of the competition by presenting them with local champion trophies and certificates.
Francis Rhys said, “I’m thankful to my parents for their guidance and support. They taught me valuable lessons and helped me prepare well. Above all, I thank God for making this possible—using my parents as instruments to guide, encourage, and remind me to embrace the journey while giving my best.”
After the competition, all attendees enjoyed the CWS Fun Fair, which featured a variety of food stalls, activity stations, and game booths with prizes. — With reports from district multimedia
