The Ecclesiastical District of Central Valley, California conducted a seminar on emergency readiness at the house of worship of the Fresno Local Congregation on December 13, 2025.
District safety officer William Enriquez spearheaded the meeting. The activity was aimed at raising awareness among brethren about earthquake preparedness, emphasizing the importance of being ready even before disaster strikes.
“Training the brethren in emergency skills like first aid and hazard mitigation empowers them to act as confident first responders rather than passive victims,” explained Enriquez. “Regular practice builds the muscle memory and psychological resilience is needed to stay calm, prevent further disasters, and ensure a quick, automatic response during a crisis.”
During the seminar, participants learned practical skills and strategies to help them respond effectively in times of crisis such as earthquake preparedness, safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and readiness tips. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was also demonstrated, thereby equipping the brethren with life-saving techniques for those who may need immediate assistance. The value of composure and clear thinking when faced with unexpected situations were reinforced as well.
“This meeting is essential for everyone because natural disasters can strike anytime, making it crucial to be prepared with basic skills like CPR and a ready survival kit,” remarked Lemoore Local Congregation head deacon Ron Benedicto. “Approved by the Church Administration, activities like this empower us with the knowledge to stay calm and act effectively during global times of uncertainty and crisis.” — With assistance from Melissa Benedicto
