Society of Communicators and Networkers, International (SCAN) members across the Ecclesiastical District of Calamian, in the Philippines, gathered for a special meeting and SCAN Empowerment and Level-up Seminar held at the house of worship of the Local Congregation of Guadalupe on January 31, 2026.
First off was the special meeting led by SCAN spiritual adviser Brother Gerardo T. Purificacion, who was sent by the Church Administration from the Central Office. Emphasizing the significance of SCAN’s selfless efforts to save lives, he encouraged the SCAN members to keep doing so, for it is not only being of help to others but most especially glorifying to God.
He also reminded them that such eagerness to help others must reflect to their being united as well in all other activities of the Church, even in the intensified propagation of God’s words. That is because, the result of understanding and obeying God’s will is salvation on Judgment Day—the greatest help that the Church members could offer to their fellowmen.
After the meeting was the Empowerment and Level-up Seminar led by Brother Donn Alcantara, the SCAN’s Vice President for Training and Membership, and Brother Glenn Alcantara, SCAN Communications Engineer. A video-presentation featuring SCAN’s rescue efforts during recent calamities was presented prior to their respectively discussing SCAN’s scope of responsibilities and the proper use of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Technology.
On his part, Brother Donn also detailed how SCAN members can level up the performance of their duties. This is by equipping themselves with the necessary skills, such as meeting necessary legal requirements that leads to their becoming trained to amateur radio protocols and thereby certified communicators and networkers or emergency first responders.
“The SCAN members anticipated this activity,” attested district Christian Family Organizations overseer Brother Jim Jefferson Berdin. “Upon learning of it, they prepared themselves, we had plans, all for the success of this activity.”
On behalf of district officers and fellow members, district SCAN president Herman Ramos said, “We thank the Church Administration for remembering us through this activity. On our part, they can expect that we will do everything that we have learned today, which have truly been of help in the fulfillment of our duties that are dedicated to God’s glory.”
