On February 8, 2026, two days after Tropical Storm Basyang (international name: Penha) ravaged Iligan City, Lanao, Philippines, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) through the Ecclesiastical District of Lanao brought aid to the residents who were affected.
According to the local media, the said storm caused widespread flooding, landslides, and the swelling of the Tubod River that necessitated temporary closure of a national highway bridge. Floodwaters reached as high as eight feet on low-lying neighborhoods, such as Brgy. Mahayahay, forcing many families to evacuate.
Beneficiaries were gathered at the house of worship compound of the Local Congregation of Iligan City. Most of them were from barangays (villages) Acmac, Camague, Lapinig, Mandulog, Margos, Pikalawag, and Tibanga, all located in the said city. There were even those from Lugait, a coastal municipality in the nearby province of Misamis Oriental, having been likewise heavily affected by the storm.
District supervising minister Brother Jerry O. Ablon led in handing out a total of 350 relief packages each containing five kilos of rice, noodles, sardines, sugar, and coffee. With him were assistant district supervising minister Brother Benjamin Isaias Jaurigue, other fellow ministers, and Church officers in the district.
On behalf of the district, Brother Ablon said, “We wholeheartedly thank the Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo and the Deputy Executive Minister Brother Angelo Eraño V. Manalo. As soon as they learned of [the residents’] predicament, they instructed us to conduct this Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity).”
