On February 14, 2026, following the onslaught of Tropical Storm Basyang (international name: Penha), the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ), through the Ecclesiastical District of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, held a Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) to affected residents.
According to reports, in the said province alone, the storm caused widespread flooding and landslides which blocked roads and affected around 50 percent of the province’s population.
District supervising minister Brother Gem S. Jingco led the humanitarian activity wherein relief packages were given to 50 families gathered at the house of worship compound of the Local Congregation of Cortes. Each package contains rice, packs of noodles, and cans of sardines.
“I am happy and grateful for the Church Administration never forgets to help us especially in this time of need,” expressed head deacon Rodencio Caresusa from Cortes Congregation, who was among those whose houses were damaged by the said storm.
“We are thankful to the Church Administration for the care extended to those affected by the recent calamity. It is truly a great help to them especially to those whose properties and livelihood were badly damaged,” said Brother Jingco on behalf of the district, adding, “We promise that no matter what happens, our hope and faith will remain unfazed, and we will continue actively serving the Lord God.” — With reports from Sir Jones de Jesus
