Teams from the local congregations of Chula Vista and of Vista, California emerged victors in their respective divisions during the INC Unity Games-Basketball Edition of the Ecclesiastical District of San Diego County, California.
In this sporting event that took place on February 16, 2026 at the Play by Play Productions sports complex in San Marcos, CA, the district’s eight congregations each fielded three teams—two for the men’s division (A and B) and one for the women’s division. Besides the two mentioned above, the other congregations in the district are El Cajon, Hemet, Menifee, National City, North San Diego, and Temecula Valley.
Each of the men’s teams representing Chula Vista grabbed the championship trophy in their respective subdivisions. The women’s team from Vista, California, meanwhile, landed first place.
“The love of the brotherhood and sportsmanship are evident even though we’re all competing,” observed player Jade Inocencio from Vista’s women’s team. “After all, activities such as this always bring us together whoever wins or loses.”
District supervising minister Brother Matthew Capistrano led the event together with district Christian Family Organizations officers. “We can see the great love of the brethren here for one another. And no matter what they go through, we can see their unity in all endeavors,” he said.
“The Unity Games highlights brotherhood, discipline, and faith,” explained event organizer and district Buklod president Justin Martin. “Through friendly competition, we strengthen not only our bodies, but also our unity inside the Church.”
Trophies were awarded to the winning teams. All other players were also recognized for their participation.
“Playing in the Unity Games makes me proud,” said player Patrick Molina from the Menifee Local Congregation. “What matters most is that we grow closer as brethren in the faith and enjoy this blessing together.” — With assistance from Christian Benedict Co
