Two days after Mount Kanlaon on Negros Island, Philippines erupted for the second time in February 2026, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) through the Ecclesiastical District of Valladolid, Negros Occidental helped alleviate the plight of the afflicted by providing aid to them on February 28 and March 1.

Upon instruction from the Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, district supervising minister Brother Dennis P. Almasco and assistant supervising minister Brother Mario Y. Quiroz immediately organized a Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) contingent to hand out care packages to those affected. The humanitarian activities were held at the house of worship compound of the Local Congregation of La Castellana on the first day, then at that of La Carlota City on the next day.

All in all, about 200 relief packages were given. Iglesia Ni Cristo members and nonmembers alike benefited.

“The ashfall that reached our area was so thick; many were afflicted,” recounted deaconess and finance officer Maribel Salvador. “We can’t go outside our house if we don’t have on hat, jacket, face masks, and goggles. We’re so happy upon knowing that the Church Administration remembered us through this aid. It’s a great help to us.”

Elsie Nieves, a Catholic said, “Thank you so much to the Iglesia Ni Cristo. Even though I’m not a member of your religion but you included me and my family among the recipients.”
