“Promoting activities like this is great for the physical health and faith of everyone,” basketball player Christian Cortez from the Shinagawa Local Congregation said of the Ecclesiastical District of Tokyo, Japan’s INC Unity Games 2.0 held on November 21, 2025. The first was conducted in May this year.
Held at the Yokosuka Arena in Kanagawa, this sporting event showcased “the bond of brotherhood between competitors. Sportsmanship truly prevailed,” observed basketball player Alger Respicio from the Ichikawa Local Congregation. “Despite not knowing them personally, once we were on the court, it was as if we were longtime friends.”
The day’s program commenced with district supervising minister Brother Amante Rodriguez leading the parade of players. Then, district Christian Family Organizations overseer Brother Ron Justinne Velasco led the opening prayer and the players’ oath of sportsmanship. Afterwards, friendly matches of basketball and volleyball, both with Men and Women categories, chess and badminton, began.
“It’s fun,” shared volleyball player Angela Esperas from the Ibaraki Local Congregation. Enthusiasts were not remiss in cheering for their brethren representing their respective local congregations.
“I enjoyed the game and our congregation won! It was a good game with our opponents, too,” expressed Christian Cortez from Shinagawa Congregation.
Brother Rodriguez and the district leadership awarded trophies and medals to the winners. “We will uphold this kind of unity in other Church endeavors,” said Brother Rodriguez on behalf of all in attendance. — With assistance from Wilner Arguelles and Wyrlo Ulayao
