“I used to harvest a lot; the fruits I reaped were big. But extreme heat so affected our crops here,” said Alfie Garganera from the Local Congregation of Cabatuan.

The El Niño phenomenon felt in Western Visayas, Philippines from April to May 2024 has caused billions-worth agricultural losses, with the province of Iloilo incurring the highest losses (pna.gov.ph).

Aware of such a plight of farmers and residents in the town of Janiuay, Iloilo City, Philippines, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) through the Ecclesiastical District of Iloilo South thus held a Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) event at Janiuay Municipal Astrodome, Iloilo City on May 11, 2024.

Church members and nonmember residents from 60 villages of the city came to its capital to benefit from the said socio-civic activity. Thousands of recipients received care packages.

“This is a great help. Thank you very much,” added Garganera upon receiving the aid.

“I’m so grateful for the Church Administration reached out to us here,” said Rhyan Gallenero. — With reports from Ariane Vitales and Ace Juliene Capizonda of INC News Section
