To promote love of the arts and for their parents, Children’s Worship Service (CWS) officers in the Local Congregations of East Vancouver and Victoria, Ecclesiastical District of British Columbia, organized CWS Parent Appreciation Day and mini canvas painting activity on June 7 and 8, 2025, respectively.

East Vancouver

For the CWS Parent Appreciation Day, CWS officers prepared folded cards. These the children turned into personalized cards by decorating and writing their well-thought-out messages for their parents.

Through the activity, aside from nurturing the children’s creativity, “they were reminded of reciprocating their parents’ love for them by respecting and loving them, which can be expressed in simple ways like giving them handmade cards showing love and appreciation to them,” said CWS teacher Matthew Sapico.

“I wrote ‘I love you’ in my card for them [parents],” shared CWS member Mackenzie Escandor. Inspired by the activity, he added, “I will also tell them that I love them. I will also hug and kiss them. I will help in the house chores.”

Parents of the participating children were also in attendance. “It’s heartwarming to see how excited my children were as they handed to me the card. These little acts of love and thoughtfulness helped us appreciate each other which, in turn, made us closer, strengthened our bond,” said Florence Escandor, Mackenzie’s parent.

Victoria

Sharing her love for the arts, CWS vice president Maika Sarmiento in the Local Congregation of Victoria led the CWS mini canvas painting that was held at the congregation’s function hall.

Using pencils, brushes, and palettes with different paint colors prepared by the CWS officers, the children showcased their creativity through their paintings on canvas.

Right after finishing their masterpieces, Sarmiento encouraged the children to speak in the front of everyone to “explain how and why they did such masterpiece, who inspired them to do it, and to whom do they intend to give such wonderful paintings. Doing so gives motivation to junior painters, making them much more willing to learn the art of painting,” she said. — With reports from Terence Blancas and Rhonda Salvani of INC News Section
