“This activity is so timely. Just last week, there’s a flash flood here in Valencia City. The SCAN officers applied their previous training in rescue operations. Now, this activity is timely since it will all the more enable them to be of help to their fellowmen in their time of need,” Valencia City, Bukidnon District supervising minister Brother Ruel G. Zapata said of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International’s (SCAN) special meeting and “Empowerment and Level-up Seminar.”

The activity for SCAN officers and members from the aforementioned district and that of the neighboring Don Carlos, Bukidnon District, in the Philippines, was held at Valencia City Congregation’s house of worship on October 4, 2025.

After a prayer led by district Christian Family Organizations overseer Brother Christian Apan, SCAN Vice Chairman Brother Wally Tarray proceeded with his Bible-based lecture. He highlighted the importance of upholding their Church duties, being their sworn oath before God.

The seminar that followed was led by Brothers Glenn Alcantara, SCAN Communications Engineer and Donn Alcantara, the SCAN’s Vice President for Training and Membership. Brother Glenn shared about the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Technology. Detailing SCAN’s scope of responsibilities, Donn explained how a SCAN member can level up to becoming a SCAN officer. Aside from knowing and being trained to amateur radio protocols and operations, SCAN members can also become certified communicators and networkers or emergency first responders upon passing its respective certifications. Most of all, they can be of great help in the socio-civic activities, and rescue operations that the SCAN promptly conducts for the benefit of those in need, such as the calamity-stricken, be they Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members or not.

In line with such noble aim, to be of help at the earliest possible time, a Disaster Preparedness Assessment was conducted before the seminar “to assess the district’s capabilities and all its rescue equipments, especially the radio setup,” shared Donn.

Upon receiving the much-needed upliftment and life-saving instructions, SCAN member Jayford Labadan from the Local Congregation of Violeta, said, “I’ll always give my best whenever I fulfill my Church duties, as I hope to be of help in making sure the Church members, even our nonmember fellowmen, are safe and sound.”
