Members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) take time to contemplate upon the myriad expressions of God’s love and kindness. For them, it is not difficult to do so because the very history of the Church speaks about God’s compassion and reveals His guiding hand at work. Such is the case with the Ecclesiastical District of Florida.
On May 4, 1996, the congregations and groups located in the southern part of the United States of America’s Eastern Seaboard were organized into the Ecclesiastical District of Southeastern Seaboard. Back then, it comprised only eight local congregations, six committee prayer groups, and five extensions supervised from the district office in Jacksonville, Florida. In time, they blossomed and, their growth led to the establishment of new congregations not only in the neighboring states of Virginia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama but also in the Caribbean countries and territories of Aruba, Netherlands Antilles, Cuba, and Jamaica.
Almost a year before its 20th anniversary, the district flourished even more with congregations in Louisiana and Tennessee, USA and in more countries in the Caribbean as well as South America, namely the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, Chile, Grand Cayman Island, Panama, Anguilla Island, Brazil, and Ecuador. In March 2015, the congregations in North Carolina were reorganized to form the Ecclesiastical District of Mid-Atlantic.
The year 2018 saw the formation of two more ecclesiastical districts, namely Brazil and Latin America. Southeastern Seaboard was renamed after the Sunshine State. In early February 2020, before Covid-19 cases reached pandemic proportions, the Ecclesiastical District of Florida gave birth to another ecclesiastical district comprising the local congregations in the southern part of the Florida panhandle, together with those in the Caribbean.
Channeling the strength that can only come from having and cultivating the true Christian faith, the district did not allow the pandemic and its impact on people’s health and livelihood to hamper the Church’s work in this part of the world.
Propagational efforts of, as well as edification endeavors for, the brethren never faltered. Evangelical missions and instruction in biblical doctrines never stopped and virtual pastoral visitations continued. The brethren even reached out to help their fellowmen in need.
On May 4, 2021, the brethren from Florida joined hands in celebrating the 25th anniversary of their district. Through an INConcert produced and performed by members from the district itself, they reflected on how rich the goodness of God has been. Many things around them have changed and more will change but the brethren know one thing has remained constant: God’s love and protection. For them, like the proverbial tree planted by the waters, the Church Of Christ in Florida just as in other ecclesiastical districts has thrived over the years because the Almighty God has never abandoned them. Bearing this in mind, the brethren, led by the ministers, Church workers, and officers, nurture in their hearts a solemn affirmation: they will continue to let the true faith blossom in their lives all for the glory of God!
