THE SPANISH PHRASE “Trece Martires” translates to “thirteen martyrs” which, in tribute to 13 heroic Caviteños who helped fight for the country’s freedom against colonizers during the Philippine Revolution in 1896, was named to a town in Cavite, Philippines. For locals, the town’s name connotes bravery and resoluteness in the face of oppression and hardship.
In the Bible, there are also those who are known as “heroes of faith.” They are individuals who demonstrated exemplar faith and obedience to God, impacting the course of history and serving as models for the true Christians. Members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ), including those in the Local Congregation of Trece Martires City, Ecclesiastical District of Trece Martires City, Cavite, continue to show their eagerness and zeal to imitate such heroes of faith. They strive to fulfill what the Church Administration teaches through the Bible, which is to abound in faith and hold on firmly to their divine election.
The Trece Martires City Congregation was established on March 7, 1965. Worship gatherings were first held at the residence of Brother Brigido Buhain Sr. in Barangay Osorio. On October 9, 1988, a chapel for the congregation was dedicated to God which could accommodate 180 people. Over the years, as the congregation’s membership significantly grew, the need for a bigger house of worship arose. On April 18, 2025, a 1,006-seater magnificent house of worship located in Barangay Lapidario was dedicated to God during a worship service officiated by Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, the Executive Minister.
One of the focal points of Brother Eduardo Manalo’s sermon during his pastoral visit at Trece Martires City Local Congregation was the strength that God offers to His servants who never cease to trust in Him. They show this by always praying to Him. When His people in these last days turn to prayer, trusting that God will provide them the strength to push through, they will never be disappointed.
The teachings of the Bible preached by Brother Eduardo Manalo inspired the Church members in Trece Martires City. Through the words of God, they were reminded that the Almighty Father promised protection, strength, and salvation for His chosen ones in these last days who are faithfully obedient to all His commandments.
The pastoral visit served as a spiritual milestone for the Local Congregation of Trece Martires City, encouraging everyone to reflect on how God’s promises provide comfort and strength, especially during trying times. The brethren in the congregation, including Sisters Arlene and Lovely, pledge to continue to trust in God and live their lives according to His will, knowing that He will never leave them, no matter the trials they face.
