“Keep focused on performing your duties.”
Thus Brother Antonio T. de Guzman Jr., a minister of the gospel, reminded the choir members from the Hawaii-Pacific Ecclesiastical District during their special gathering, together with their respective families, on May 4, 2025.
Brother de Guzman officiated at the momentous occasion on the instruction of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo.
The house of worship of Ewa Beach Congregation served as main venue. The event’s proceedings were beamed live to the houses of worship of four other congregations, namely, Wailuku, Keaau, Kalaheo, and American Samoa.
Brother de Guzman commended the choir members for their sacrifices borne out of their ardent desire to never fail in fulfilling their divine obligations. Citing from the Bible, he further inspired them that as Church officers they are certain that the Almighty God is on their side. He then exhorted them that whatever happens, they must strive to keep themselves disciplined, obedient, and focused on performing their duties.
“This lesson was so inspiring,” stated Edna Cayabyab, Hawaii-Pacific choir director. “It was a great reminder of working hard as a choir member and the reward of sacrifice.”
Michael Lauricio, choir member from Lahaina Congregation expressed that he was “humbled with the attention given us, making us feel important and loved.” Meanwhile, Kristina Malit, choir member from Pearl Harbor Congregation, added, “I left the gathering feeling very encouraged and spiritually recharged. I also felt more confident and motivated to keep fulfilling my duty knowing that we have the support and guidance of the Church Administration.”
Sharing why she continues to fulfill her duty for more than 50 years, Rita Ignacio, choir member from Honolulu Congregation, said, “It is very important to me to continue and to never fail in my duty because this is my inspiration. It gives me strength in all tests of my life. Without this, I am nothing.”
“Choir members have a vital role in worship services,” stated Brother Gem Baitan, district supervising minister. “When they perform their duty from the heart, knowing that God expects them to, they are able to inspire the brethren to do the same. And experience tells us that God doesn’t withhold His Spirit when He sees and hears His people singing wholeheartedly. For choir members, such an experience, which was what actually happened in the special gathering, is a validation that, truly, all their labors and sacrifices have meaning; and that all the more strengthens them in the faith.” — With reports from Erwin Sunga
