To recognize their dedication to their duty and further inspire the officers and members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN), the Ecclesiastical District of Hawaii-Pacific hosted an Appreciation Day for them on November 9, 2025. The program was held at the house of worship compound of the Local Congregation of Ewa Beach.
The SCAN Appreciation event was aimed at recognizing SCAN officers’ selfless efforts for the brethren’s welfare, such as maintaining order and safety when they gather for worship, and also for the community, such as during outreach programs. The district leadership was present in the activity. Respective families of the officers also attended, who were as happy and grateful as their loved ones being lauded.
The day commenced with district supervising minister Brother Gem Baitan reading the message of the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo. In his letter, the Executive Minister extended his greetings to the SCAN members for their steadfast faith, and his hope that they remain vigilant and devoted in fulfilling their God-given duties. Then, he emphasized that true courage and unity come from obedience to God’s commandments.
Afterwards, all in attendance watched “Kagitingan (bravery),” a CEBSI Films original, which well portrayed Christian bravery, selfless sacrifices, and unwavering faith in God amidst trials.
“There’s a lot of good points in the movie but what I realized was: Whether who you are, you cannot escape challenges in life,” shared SCAN president Mark Fajardo about the part of the film that moved him. “What’s important is to stay focused, remember the knowledge one gained, so he can use it in the event of calamity,” he added.
With this activity, the SCAN members have been “empowered to keep doing their best in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities,” attested Fajardo.
“I love helping people, keeping them safe, and finding opportunities to learn a lot of things about safety. These are some of the reasons I fulfill my duty,” said SCAN officer Dave Wilson.
“It’s important to make sure our brethren are safe during Church activities and that such endeavors remain orderly. This is a part of the duties of the SCAN officers so we do the best that we can,” said district safety officer Brother Joshua Monico. – With reports from Erwin Sunga
