Officers and members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) in the Ecclesiastical District of Capas, Tarlac, Philippines, attended their Emergency First Responder (EFR) seminar on July 20, 2025. Not long after, on July 25, they held a Care for Humanity event.

EFR seminar

Almost 200 SCAN officers and members received additional knowledge and instructions through their EFR seminar that was held at the house of worship compound of the Local Congregation of San Francisco-Concepcion on July 20, 2025.

After a prayer led by district SCAN president Jeffrey Galang and opening remarks by district SCAN secretary Hazel Torno, district SCAN officer Rhoderick Cauguiran provided knowledge about giving first aid, types of bandaging, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods, accident response, and how to rescue conscious and unconscious patient.

SCAN member John Keven David of Concepcion Congregation not only demonstrated these beneficial methods. He also led the brethren in applying what they learned during the seminar. The knowledge he imparted is “for the benefit of the community, as well as our own. Knowing these instructions whenever bad situations come, such as calamities, enables us to be of help to the community, to our brethren in the Church Of Christ primarily,” he said. David is also one of the rescuers in the Concepcion Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

On behalf of the district’s SCAN members, Galang said, “We are very thankful to the Church Administration for giving us this opportunity to impart our knowledge to our fellow SCAN members.”

Lingap sa Mamamayan
Also for the benefit of their fellowmen, district’s SCAN officers volunteered to be of help in distributing a thousand care packages through their Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) event.

Brethren living at the neighboring municipalities of La Paz, Concepcion, and Capas were the intended beneficiaries, being those much afflicted by recent consecutive tropical storms and the southwest monsoon that severely hit the Philippines. They hail from the Local Congregations of Binyayan, Caut, Lomboy, Macalong, and Sta. Monica. Their respective resident ministers led the giving of care packages.

“Me and my family are very thankful to the Lord God for utilizing our Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, in caring for us during these trying times,” said SCAN member Erdy Fermin from La Paz Congregation. — With assistance from Argel Mañebog of INC News Section
