PASUGO: GOD’S MESSAGE EDITORS-IN-CHIEF

The men behind the Church’s magazine

01-FYM-BW-1939

Brother Felix Y. Manalo
February 1939-1941

In February 1939, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) began employing print evangelism through the Pasugo: God’s Message. It was no less than the Messenger of God in these last days, Brother Felix Y. Manalo, who saw the need for a magazine that would bring biblical understanding to people in various places to facilitate their return to God.

The magazine was the brainchild of Brother Felix Manalo, and it was also he who chose Ang Pasugo to be its official name, as quoted from a biblical verse in the Tagalog version of the Bible. He managed the production of the magazine for almost two years—from its maiden issue in 1939 until January of 1941 with the advent of the Second World War in the Philippines. After the war years, with the country slowly recovering, the Pasugo saw print again in January of 1951 after almost a decade.

The editorship of the Church’s official magazine has been passed on to a selected few. Throughout the years, these ministers of the gospel, silent and humble workers, helped shape this magazine to become what it is today—an effective missionary tool and a source of inspiration for the brethren.
