Bodies of water may be separating them geographically, but the love of brotherhood binds them strongly. This was what the members of the Christian Society for the Deaf (CSD) proved during the organization’s boot camp held on August 12, 2023 at Badminton City, a sports complex situated at Purok 7, Barangay Linao, Ormoc City, Leyte.

The participants came from ecclesiastical districts in Region VII (Central Visayas) and Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) of the Philippines. The former consisted of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor provinces; the latter Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte. Regardless of the long distances they had to travel, they actively participated in the program prepared for them.

The program consisted of dance performances, and games such as memory games, board games, basketball shootout, Finger Letters Challenge, and ‘Draw the Sign Language.’ The participants were also able to interact with one another through meet and greet, and social media booths. They also received souvenir items and prizes.

“We are thankful and joyous for the Church Administration conducts activities even for the Deaf so that we will remain active in our services to the Lord God,” Erramee Bernales from the Local Congregation of Baybay City, Ecclesiastical District of Leyte West, expressed through Sign Language.

“Our Lord God and the Church Administration evidently love our Deaf brethren, making sure they are always being cared for, and are equally given a chance to understand God’s words,” Brother Roy Miguel, Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer of the host district, Leyte West, said. “On their part, our Deaf brethren remain active in their services, ever steadfast in the  faith.” — With reports from Alyza Apsay of INC News Section
