In a music appreciation webinar held by the Ecclesiastical District of South Korea on February 18, 2022, the role of music in edification resonated among the attendees.

In his opening remarks, Brother Timothy Kim Reyes, district edification overseer, spoke about the importance of music in people’s lives and pointed out how it can be used even in Church activities, such as in the field of edification.

Along the same vein, Kim Carlo dela Cruz, the resource speaker, who is a district choir director, went on to discuss with the attendees the specifics of what makes a musical piece soothing and uplifting at the same time. He discussed, among other things, the different time signatures, musical notes, as well as their corresponding value. Knowing these intimately, he said, would help one create a musical piece that can bring comfort and solace.

“Activities like this seminar, allow the brethren to develop and make use of their talents in creating new hymns, songs or compositions that may be used not only for worship service but also in the different social media platforms of the Church that will help in inspiring and edifying the brethren’s faith,” Raymond Dungo, a district choir director from Uijeongbu Local Congregation, explained.

Understanding the value of what she learned that day as well as the insights it brought, Iya Venida Bugarin, a choir member from Seoul Local Congregation, said, “We enjoyed participating in the event because it further enhanced our skill in singing hymns that are being sung during worship services and even our skill in doing our own renditions of INC original music.”

Through the Christian Family Organizations (CFO), the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) sponsors webinars, musical programs, as well as singing competitions for the benefit of the brethren. — With reports from INC News Section
