To commemorate the district’s 68th anniversary, the leadership of the Ecclesiastical District of Western Samar staged a Himig ng Kaligtasan (Songs of Salvation) competition at the Calbayog City Sports Center in Samar, Philippines on May 7, 2023.

Choral groups, composed of KADIWA and Binhi members from each of the seven clusters of neighboring local congregations in the district, rendered their respective performance of the INC Original Music contest piece Ang Ama Ang Magbibigay Ng Kalakasan before the audience.

The said clusters were Calbayog City (comprising local congregations of Calbayog City, Ilo, Inoraguiao, and San Pelayo Extension), Catbalogan (Catbalogan, Iguid, Mual-bual Ext., Tarangnan Ext.), Hinabangan (Hinabangan, Calbiga, Parasanon, Tigbawon), Motiong (Motiong, Casandig), San Jorge (San Jorge, Calanyugan, Pagsanghan, Lincoro Ext., Blanca Aurora Group Worship Service and Rosalim GWS), Sto. Niño (Sto Niño, Takut, Almagro Ext.), and Tarabucan (Tarabucan, Cabacungan, Malayog, Caybago Ext., Oquendo Ext., Saljag Ext.).

Christian Febra and Mary Delos Reyes, district choir directors, served as the panel of judges. Catbalogan Cluster emerged as champion at the end of the musical tilt.

“Our group was crowned champion but I believe that everyone who competed is a winner because unity of the brethren is the highlight of this activity,” said Edlean Zamora, choir member from Catbalogan City Local Congregation.

“This occasion evidently brought activeness to the brethren,” Brother Al Jurada, district Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer, observed. “We’ve accomplished this only through God’s help.” — With reports from Edlen Zamora of INC News Section
