To better communicate with and show genuine concern for their Deaf brethren, members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) from the Local Congregations of Evangelista, Ibayo, Malibay, Pasay, and Proprietarios, Ecclesiastical District of Makati, in the Philippines, attended a Sign Language Seminar on August 27, 2023.

Brother Glenn Binasoy, district Christian Society for the Deaf (CSD) coordinator, led the said seminar at the conference room of the Local Congregation of Pasay. He taught basic signs, such as the alphabet, numbers, everyday greetings, and Church terminologies.

The participants also learned about the Deaf community. Lastly, Brother Binasoy encouraged them to accept Church duties, primarily as CSD officers, to be one with the Church Administration in caring for the Deaf brethren.

“I’m grateful for having been equipped with this much-needed knowledge. I can now communicate with our Deaf brethren,” said Michelle Cabaltiera, a finance officer from Malibay Congregation.

Among those who also attended were some of the Deaf brethren in the district. “I feel happy when the ‘hearing’ brethren learn Sign Language. It shows their support and eagerness to be of help to us, their fellow brethren who are Deaf,” Mark Anthony Camba conveyed through Sign language in an interview. — With reports from Makati District Multimedia
