On October 31, 2023, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members from the Ecclesiastical District of Davao City went to the village of Baganihan, Marilog District, Davao City, Philippines, and at the gym there conducted a Lingap sa Mamamayan (Care for Humanity) activity for the Matigsalug indigenous group.

“When my relatives get sick, we struggle because the medical service in our area is limited. So we still need to take the patient to the Marilog District Hospital, which is far from our place,” shared Aida Ababon, a Matigsalug, and a Sangguniang Barangay (Barangay Council) member.

Thus, the Church Of Christ’s program at the area provided the residents with free medical and dental services. They also received care packages.

“Thank you so much, brethren, for lending a helping hand to us. It has been a great help for my family,” added Aida.

The said humanitarian activity was facilitated by district’s Christian Medical Dental and Paramedical Society (CMDPS) with the supervision of Brother Macleo Ibasco, district supervising minister, and Brother Homer Tiomico, assistant district supervising minister.

Farming, and making bracelets made in “agsam” fern, is the main livelihood of the Matigsalug. “Brgy. Baganihan and neighboring villages, are in the mountainous part of Davao City. It is God’s commandment written in the Bible that we help our fellowmen in need, especially here where most people lack health services,” Brother Macleo said in an interview. — With reports from Clarose Demellones of INC News Section
