During a special gathering presided over by Brother Rene J. Panoncillo, the general secretary of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ), over a thousand brethren took their oath as Church officers in various local congregations in the Ecclesiastical District of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

“More than a thousand brethren took oath. With the help of our Lord God, they will be dependable helpers of the Administration in caring for the spiritual welfare of those under their care,” said Brother Jonas Medrano, assistant district supervising minister.

The special gathering and oath-taking of new officers was held on June 18, 2022 at the Kabankalan City Cultural and Sports Center in the Philippines.

Brother Panoncillo preached a biblical lesson about the important role of Church officers in helping the brethren become active in all the Church’s works. He exhorted the Church officers to continually serve as good examples to the brethren, especially the young and newly baptized members.

“When the brethren heard the call of the Church Administration for more officers, many decided to accept Church duties. They believe that having a Church duty will further strengthen their faith and bring them closer to our Lord God,” Brother Carlito Gonzales Jr., district edification overseer, explained.

Among those who took their oath were deacons, deaconesses, area overseers, officers in the Christian Family Organizations (CFO), choir members, secretaries, and officers in the district multimedia team.

Merlinda Idos, a newly-sworn in deaconess from the Local Congregation of Hinigaran, enthused, “All of us in our family accepted Church duties to help the Administration in taking care of the brethren. Our Church duties are important for our family’s welfare. It is important for us to remain together in serving God and overcome temptations and evil in this world. We will dedicate ourselves in fulfilling our duties to bring glory to our Lord God.” — With reports from INC News Section
