Society of Communicators and Networkers International (SCAN) members in the Ecclesiastical District of Rizal East underwent an Emergency First Responder (EFR) training and seminar on October 28, 2023. It was held at the Palangoy Covered Court, in the town of Binangonan, Rizal, Philippines.

“We were taught about Basic Life Support (BLS), including the proper way of carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which is vital in rescuing victims of sudden cardiac arrest,” said Francisco Adante, a SCAN officer. “This knowledge can also be used to help people in need, especially during calamities.”

Among the facilitators was Lorna Rulloda, a SCAN officer and a midwife who taught her fellow officers about basic first aid, as well as the “knowledge about emergency childbirth, which is also important for a first responder to learn,” she said.

At the conclusion of the activity, the attendees were given practical examinations and hands-on exercises to help them better remember what they learned during the seminar.

“We are very grateful to the Church Administration for having this activity that will help hone the life-saving skills of the SCAN members in our area,” said Brother Eugene Bagacay, ministerial worker, who helped supervise the event. — With reports from Klaudine Amoroso of INC News Section
