Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members in the Local Congregation of San Carlos, Ecclesiastical District of Iloilo South in the Philippines participated in a Deaf awareness seminar that was held at their house of worship on July 30, 2023.
The said seminar was organized by the district Christian Society for the Deaf (CSD) officers under the supervision of Brother Eljun Catacho, minister of the gospel and CSD adviser.
During the seminar, Brother Catacho emphasized to all attendees the significance of learning Sign Language. Then, the CSD officers demonstrated how to sign the basics, such as, alphabets, greetings, numbers, and self-introduction.
“I am so happy that I was able to attend the activity. I learned basic Sign Language skills that I can use when necessary and, especially, in sharing the true faith with the Deaf,” said Vis Marck Fabula, a choir member, and the congregation’s Children’s Worship Service (CWS) chairperson.
“This activity imparted skills in Sign Language which will be of great help to me as I communicate with the Deaf and establish a good relationship with them,” said Ailenn Villorete Subong, a finance officer. — With reports from Ace Capizonda of INC News Section
