The choral competition “Songs of Salvation-Buklod Edition” in the Ecclesiastical District of Oregon culminated on September 18, 2022. Part of the district’s series of activities leading to the 60th anniversary of Buklod, the musical event brought together brethren and families from local congregations in the state of Oregon, Montana, as well as Idaho.

Buklod is one of the Christian Family Organizations (CFO) inside the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ). It is made up of married members and it conceptualizes projects that promote stronger spousal relationship as well as those that foster good family ties.

Choral groups from seven local congregations and five group worship services (GWS) gave their best in performing their selected piece of Iglesia Ni Cristo original music.

The choral group of the Local Congregation of Portland, with their rendition of “God’s Righteousness,” was declared champion. The merged choral group of the Local Congregation of Boise, Idaho and Fruitland, Idaho GWS; and that of the Local Congregation of Vancouver, Washington were second and third placers, respectively.

“Even though it’s a competition, and all were serious about winning, it’s nice to know that they’re still having fun. They really put their hearts out there,”said Mercedes Pizarro, who served as one of the judges.

“This activity gave us memories that we will never forget. Memories of joy, of sacrifice, as there were times when brethren would practice their respective musical piece for hours; and of love, as married members have been given a chance to further appreciate their spouses. All these were to make the Father all the more glorified,” said Brother Erman Vem Canlas, district Christian Family Organizations (CFO) overseer.

Brother Gem Baitan, the assistant district supervising minister, enthused, “With the guidance of our district supervising minister, Brother Dernilo Pascua, brethren in our district are always led in fully uniting in all Church activities. We constantly remind them that the activities inside the Church, those sponsored by the CFO for instance, are all geared to edify their faith and bring them all closer together as brothers and sisters in the faith; and these bring glory and honor to our Almighty God.” — With reports from INC News Section
