Driven by the aim to promote the love of brotherhood and solidify Christian unity through sports, the Ecclesiastical District of Edmonton held its first INC Unity Games on May 22, 2023 at Saville Community Sports Centre located at 11610 – 65 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta.

Among the participating local congregations were Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray, both of which were a 5-hour drive away from the venue, and Slave Lake and Hinton which had to travel for 3 hours. With the district’s eight other local congregations and 13 group worship services (GWS), they participated in the parade of teams held in the said venue. Afterwards, participating teams competed in volleyball and basketball.

Hailed champion for women’s volleyball was Mill Woods Congregation, while Meadowlark Congregation triumphed in both men’s volleyball and basketball for the Buklod category. Meanwhile, Wellington Congregation bested in basketball for both KADIWA and Binhi categories.

“Joining in the recent Edmonton District Unity Games gives us opportunity to show our unison,” Ariel Lubaton, coach of Wellington’s Binhi team, said. “Coaching the Binhi team and guiding them to do their best and winning the championship are bonuses. What is more important is that they learn to practice sportsmanship at a young age and become strengthened in the faith.” — With reports from INC News Section
