The Christian Employees Association (CEA) in the Ecclesiastical District of Sabah hosted an online seminar for its members, who are Filipino overseas workers, on November 14, 2023.

With the district office serving as the host site, brethren attended online from their respective areas. As approved by the Church Administration, they watched an informative video prepared by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), an agency under the Department of Migrant Workers of the Philippines. It showed the programs and services listed out by the said government agency aimed to benefit the workers and their dependents.

Also discussed in the video were the benefits that the overseas workers and their respective families can avail in reference to RA 10801 or also known as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Act. Reintegration, repatriation assistance, workers assistance, and social benefits such as for death and disabilities, and health care, were among the benefits mentioned.

“The Christian Employees Association (CEA) works to ensure that our brethren, who are working or employed, are properly treated,” said  Ernesto Maquilan, CEA officer from Bintulu Group Worship Service. “Knowing what the government offers to overseas workers will pave the way for brethren to plan for their return to their native country,” he added. — With reports from Cleo Garcia of INC News Section
