Brethren from the Ecclesiastical District of Northern Midwest gathered at the Romeoville Athletic and Events Center located in Romeoville County, Illinois, United States for a day of sporting events on May 24, 2023.

The said occasion, which was also their district-wide INC Unity Games, featured friendly competitions in basketball and volleyball. These were eagerly participated in by brethren from the local congregations situated in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Brother Erman Bendicio, district supervising minister, led them.

“We would spend hours practicing and working on our skills. Doing so has kindled our passion for our preferred sports, while our brotherly bond with each other further strengthened,” shared Aelan Nartatez, volleyball player and choir member from the Local Congregation of Bloomingdale, Illinois.

“I actually felt blessed when I made the effort to have my daughter learn volleyball because whenever we join our Unity Games, she is not only competitive as she also feel that brotherly bond, in turn, she becomes friendly with other players as well,” said Exie Nasis, Buklod district officer from the same congregation.

The victors of these sports competitions were the participants from the Local Congregations of Park Ridge and Bloomingdale in volleyball, men’s and women’s categories, respectively, and those from the Local Congregation of Naperville in basketball, men’s category.

This INC Unity Games of the Northern Midwest Ecclesiastical District was but a prelude in the inter-district level of such a Church-wide multi-sport event. — With reports from Gretchen Asuncion of INC News Section
